What's all this then?! A brief introduction
Welcome to my resource blog. I'm a secondary school Head of English & subject teacher, and during my years of teaching in a variety of different schools, both state and independent, have often enjoyed creating different posters and displays to celebrate literary quotes, techniques, texts, theories and strategies that I wanted my students to see, perhaps in the hope that constant exposure to such things would eventually help hammer home those messages. It always occurred to me that if I had someone to do these for me then there would be just one less job to do after the marking, planning and hubbub of teaching had died down every day, so I thought I'd offer my own display work back to the world. Please do feel free to browse through my archives as inspiration for your own classroom displays and help yourself to anything you need- I do hope they are of some use. You can enlarge an image and right click on it to save it to your computer using your mouse, and in some instances there is now a file icon associated with the images that you can download directly to your desktop with the collection of images involved. I'll be updating these as I get time. You can also find comment boxes at the bottom of each page should you wish to offer anything about the material stored here.
I'm aware that some schools and teachers don't see the advantage of using these kinds of materials in the class room, suggesting that some research implies they are of little educational benefit. Clearly I disagree with that perspective, and would argue that if students are going to gaze around the classroom - and from time to time, they inevitably all will- then we might as well provide something useful for them to look at. The advertising industry, worth billions and billions of dollars in displaying material, appears inclined to agree with me; continued exposure to a message means that, eventually, it sinks in.
I do not own the rights to any of the images used on these pages, nor do I claim to. I must stress that their use is purely for educational purposes and strictly not for profit; I am not selling anything at all on this page to others. It is my understanding that as such, I am not in breach of any copyright law but if you do spot an image that you own the rights to and do not want it displayed in an educational environment simply let me know and I will of course remove it immediately for you.
With best wishes,
Matt Kingscote.
